California is a clown show. Things do not work in this state. Housing is unaffordable. Schools are broken. Things do get built. Public transportation is a joke. Bureaucracy takes years to get anything done. Urban centers are not safe. Homeless is an epidemic. Tent cities exist. Parks are disgusting. Let’s explore some of the latest nonsense going on in Sacramento. First off, we have unions opposing development of the Railyards:
The residents who appeared Tuesday, organized by Unite Here Local 49, a union chapter that represents local casino, hotel and food service workers, called for the city to require developers to build more affordable housing in the Railyards.
Pamela Freemon, 77, who lives at the Wong Center, told the committee Tuesday that the affordable housing requirements in the current deal “shameful.”
“We want soccer here in Sacramento, but we also need to address the housing crisis,” Freemon said. Kelley said earlier this month that 500 of the first 6,000 units built in the Railyards would be affordable, or about 8%. The union and its allies have suggested that the rate should be closer to 20%.
Now, unions are usually right about 1/3 of the time. The other 2/3rds of the time they are complete nuisances. If it made sense to build affordable housing in California people would be doing it. Labor and material costs are so high, not to mention the delays and hiccups from dealing with the incompetent city governments. The best way to bring down housing costs is to increase supply. Gradually those units will no longer be new and rent will become less restrictive to working class people. Along with 10,000 housing units, there’s supposed to be a soccer stadium to be built and a hospital. These unions have decided to put all of that in jeopardy. Do these unions really care about rent prices? Either it’s corruption, feeling they didn’t get enough of the pie, or irredeemable stupidity.
In other clown world news there is a border enforcement operation going on within Sacramento. Let’s see how Sacramento is reacting to the country actually enforcing its laws. Yeah, it seems a good portion of the American electorate actively wants to see violence done law enforcement. Then the rest of the Democrats either say nothing about it or refuse to condemn it. I’m glad with how badly this city is managed and all the problems with it ICE deporting people illegally in the country is their greatest concern and what gets them to march in the streets. Great priorities guys.
Then the continued joke that is homelessness and public transit. Don’t you love walking outside of your apartment and you’re greeted with a sight of a couple dozen homeless sprawled out on the street. The other day some homeless was ranting about smashing someone with a baseball bat while walking down the street. Another instance another homeless was playing around with some styrofoam that was in the shape of a gun and he carried it like one and holstered it like one. He held it up to me and told me he could shoot me in the back. Or another of this man who apparently had just gotten out of prison and was acting erratically and decided to call out.
The lightrail continues to be junk. Somebody seriously needs to fix 16th street. The “teens” on the train will try to pick fights with you if you dress half decently and are white. You have to constantly be vigilant and make sure you don’t look at someone for more than a few seconds cause it will give them an excuse to behave like “Teens”. People are dirty. Hopefully you don’t have to sink next to someone too unsavory or else you’ll be greeted by a nice stench. And in some places the trains don’t even run every 15 minutes but every half hour. Another beautiful day in California. The slogan of this state should be “California: the state where you have the privilege to pay way too much to be ruled over by complete idiots and live among morally and intellectually bankrupt people.”
